Privacy Policy — QRious

Overview

QRious is a QR code scanning, organizing, and generation app for iOS developed by Boréale Interactive Studio Inc. ("we," "us," or "our"), a corporation incorporated under the laws of Canada with its principal place of business in Quebec, Canada.

Your privacy is a core design principle of QRious. The app is built to function almost entirely on your device. We do not sell your data and we do not use your data for advertising. Any data collected is minimal, processed transparently, and never shared with third parties for profit.

This Privacy Policy explains what data is collected, by whom, and how it is used when you use QRious.

1. Data Collected Directly by QRious

What QRious stores on your device

QRious stores the following data locally on your device only, using your device's secure local storage:

Scan history: A record of QR codes you have scanned, including the content of each code (URL, text, Wi-Fi credentials, contact information, etc.), the date and time of each scan, and any folder organization or custom name you have assigned
Generated QR codes: QR codes you create within the app, including their content and any customization settings (colors, shapes, logos)
App preferences and settings: Your in-app preferences including language selection, display settings, organization choices, and feature flags such as whether certain one-time onboarding prompts have been shown

None of this data is transmitted to our servers or to any third-party server by QRious itself. It exists only on your device and is deleted if you uninstall the app.

What QRious does NOT collect

Your name, email address, phone number, or any other identifying personal information
Your location
Any biometric data
Any information about other apps on your device
The content of your contacts or calendar beyond what you explicitly choose to use when generating a QR code (see Section 2)

2. Device Permissions

QRious requests the following device permissions. Each is used solely for the stated purpose and only when you actively use the relevant feature.

Camera Access

Purpose: To scan QR codes using your device camera in real time.
What we do with it: Camera frames are processed entirely on-device to detect and decode QR codes. No images or video are ever saved, transmitted, or stored by QRious as a result of using the camera scanner.
Permission type: Required to use the core scanning feature.

Photo Library — Read Access (Import)

Purpose: To allow you to select an image from your Photos library and scan a QR code contained within it.
What we do with it: The selected image is processed on-device to detect and decode the QR code. The image is never saved by QRious, never uploaded, and never stored. Once the QR code content is extracted, the image is discarded.
Permission type: Optional. You are only prompted when you choose to use the "Scan from photo library" feature.

Photo Library — Write Access (Save to Photos)

Purpose: To allow you to save a QR code image you have generated in QRious directly to your device's Photos library.
What we do with it: When you explicitly tap "Save to Photos," QRious writes the generated QR code image to your camera roll. QRious does not read, access, or collect any existing photos in your library. This is a one-way write operation initiated entirely by you.
Permission type: Optional. You are only prompted when you choose to use the "Save to Photos" export feature.

Contacts Access

Purpose: To allow you to create a vCard (contact) QR code using information from one of your existing contacts.
What we do with it: If you choose to generate a vCard QR code, QRious may request access to your contacts to let you select a contact as the source of the QR code content. The contact information is used only to populate the QR code you are creating on your device. No contact data is transmitted, stored beyond the QR code you generate, or shared with anyone.
Permission type: Optional. You are only prompted if you choose to use the vCard QR code generation feature.

Calendar Access

Purpose: To allow you to save an event from a scanned event QR code directly to your device's calendar.
What we do with it: When you scan a QR code containing event information and choose to add it to your calendar, QRious requests calendar access to create that event. QRious does not read your existing calendar events. This is a one-way write operation initiated entirely by you.
Permission type: Optional. You are only prompted when you choose to save an event from a scanned QR code.

3. QRious Subscription — Free and Pro Tiers

QRious is a freemium app. The free tier is available to all users at no cost and includes core QR scanning and organization features. An optional Pro subscription unlocks additional functionality.

Free tier includes:

URL QR code scanning (unlimited)
Up to 5 saved recent scans
Up to 1 generated QR code
Up to 3 folders with 3 items each

Pro subscription includes:

All QR code types for scanning and creating (Wi-Fi, vCard, SMS, email, phone, location, event, text, social, and more)
Up to 50 saved scans, generated codes, folders, and items per folder
Full customization (colors, logos, shapes)
All export formats (PNG, SVG, PDF, JPEG)

Pro is available as a monthly ($7.99 USD/month) or annual ($59.99 USD/year) auto-renewable subscription, each with a 3-day free trial. Subscription management and billing are handled entirely by Apple. See Section 4 for details on how purchase data is processed.

4. Third-Party Services That Collect Data

QRious is designed to minimize data collection. The following third-party services may collect limited technical data to provide their services, as described below.

Apple (App Store & In-App Purchases)

If you purchase a QRious Pro subscription, the transaction is processed entirely by Apple through the App Store. Apple collects and processes payment information, purchase receipts, and subscription status in accordance with Apple's Privacy Policy: https://www.apple.com/legal/privacy/

We receive from Apple only a confirmation that a valid purchase has been made and the type of subscription purchased. We do not receive your payment details, Apple ID, or any other personal information from Apple.

Subscriptions renew automatically unless cancelled at least 24 hours before the end of the current period. You can manage or cancel your subscription at any time in your Apple Account Settings.

RevenueCat

QRious uses RevenueCat (RevenueCat, Inc., 633 Tasman St., San Leandro, CA 94577, USA) to manage in-app subscriptions and determine your subscription entitlement status within the app.

RevenueCat collects and processes the following data in connection with your use of QRious:

A randomly generated anonymous identifier (not linked to your name or email)
Your device type and operating system version
Your subscription status (active, expired, trial, cancelled, etc.)
Purchase timestamps and transaction identifiers provided by Apple
App version

RevenueCat does not collect your name, email address, location, or any personally identifiable information. The anonymous identifier RevenueCat assigns cannot be used to identify you outside of RevenueCat's system.

This data is used solely for the purpose of determining whether you have an active Pro subscription that unlocks premium features in QRious.

RevenueCat acts as a data processor on our behalf under appropriate data processing agreements.

5. Data We Do NOT Collect or Use

To be explicit and unambiguous:

We do not sell your data to any third party — ever
We do not share your scan history with anyone
We do not use your data for behavioral advertising or interest-based advertising
We do not profile you
We do not have access to the QR codes you scan or the content of those scans
QRious contains no advertising SDK or advertising network
QRious does not currently use analytics tools (if this changes in a future version, this Privacy Policy will be updated and you will be notified within the app before the change takes effect)

6. Data Security

All data stored by QRious is kept on your device using iOS secure local storage mechanisms. Your scan history, generated QR codes, and app preferences are protected by your device's built-in security features, including device passcode, Face ID, Touch ID, and iOS data protection.

Since QRious processes scans on-device and minimizes data transmission to servers we operate, the risk of a data breach on our end is effectively zero with respect to your personal QRious data.

We encourage you to keep your device software up to date and to use a strong device passcode to protect your data.

7. QR Code Safety

QRious displays the content and destination URL of any scanned QR code before taking any action, allowing you to review it before opening or saving it. We recommend never opening URLs from QR codes in unfamiliar locations without reviewing the destination first. QRious is not responsible for the content of QR codes created by third parties and scanned using the app.

8. Children's Privacy

QRious is rated 4+ and is suitable for users of all ages. QRious is designed to minimize data collection and does not knowingly collect personal information from children under the age of 13. Because QRious minimizes personal data collection, this applies equally to all users regardless of age.

9. Your Rights Under Canadian Privacy Law

As a company incorporated in Quebec, Canada, we are subject to the Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA) and Quebec's Act respecting the protection of personal information in the private sector (Law 25 / Bill 64).

Because QRious stores scan data locally on your device and minimizes the personal information we hold on our systems, your rights are exercised directly within the app:

Right of access: Your scan history, generated QR codes, and app data are already in your possession on your device. We do not hold a separate copy.
Right to correction: You can rename, edit, organize, or update any of your data directly within the app at any time.
Right to deletion: You can delete individual scans, generated QR codes, folders, or your entire history at any time within the app. Uninstalling QRious removes all locally stored data permanently.
Right to withdraw consent: You can revoke camera, photo library, contacts, or calendar permissions at any time in your iOS Settings → Privacy & Security.

QRious is available on the App Store worldwide, including in the European Economic Area (EEA) and United Kingdom. For users in these regions:

Because QRious minimizes data collection and processes scans on-device, and because the only third-party processors involved — Apple and RevenueCat — operate under their own GDPR-compliant frameworks, our direct obligations under the GDPR as a data controller are minimal.

For data processed by RevenueCat on our behalf, we rely on RevenueCat's standard contractual clauses and data processing agreements for international data transfers. RevenueCat's GDPR documentation is available at https://www.revenuecat.com/privacy.

11. Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time, particularly if we add new features that involve data collection (such as analytics, cloud sync, or account features). When we do:

We will update the "Last updated" date at the top of this policy
If the change is material (for example, if we begin collecting data we previously did not collect), we will notify you through a notice within the app before the change takes effect
Continued use of QRious after a material change has been communicated constitutes your acceptance of the updated policy
